A 2e child usually refers to a child who, alongside being considered intellectually above average, is formally diagnosed with one or more disabilities. The disabilities are varied: dyslexia, visual or auditory processing disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, sensory processing disorder, Asperger syndrome, Tourette Syndrome. The child might have a diagnosis of attention deficit disorder, with or without hyperactivity, or diagnoses of anxiety or depression.
The disability is interfering with the student's ability to learn effectively in a traditional environment.
In the 1980s, the concept of 2e children has become commonly accepted among educational researchers. Since the goal of education is to provide opportunities for children to build knowledge, skills and attitudes, so that they can become successful, our program for 2e children include:
Nurture the child’s strength and interest
Foster their emotional / social development
Identify learning gaps and provide concrete instructions using Montessori material
Provide Individual Education Plans (IEP) and goal setting
We are not centered on only “teaching” children but helping them to explore. Montessori method varies from one center to another and we focus on advance academic curriculum as well as giving opportunity to your child to express their curiosity.
